Markets are reacting calmly, as political uncertainty has persisted for some time and both businesses and citizens still have sufficient reserves. The ECB has also announced that it is ready to intervene if necessary.
Shutdown in the US
In the United States, the federal government is largely at a standstill because Congress has failed to reach an agreement on spending. As a result, 750.000 civil servants are at home without pay. Past experience shows that the impact of such a shutdown on the economy is minimal. For now, we are seeing little effect on stock markets. Meanwhile, the AI hype continues unabated: there is massive investment in data centers and AI tools, and AI-related shares remain strong. It is difficult to predict when this euphoric race will peak. The biggest challenge is to derive value from concrete business applications and generate sustainable revenue streams from AI.
